Young track teams win championships

BHS Freshman Girls Track Team

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats freshman and sophomore track performers won the championships at the Tuesday, March 13, freshman and sophomore invitational meet at Chiles High School in Tallahassee, Fla.

In the boys’ division, Bainbridge took first place with 123.5 points, followed by Leon (Tallahassee, Fla.) with 98.5 points and Chiles with 92 points. In the girls’ division, Bainbridge was first with a score of 133 points, followed by Lincoln (Tallahassee, Fla.) with 127 points and Wakulla (Crawfordville, Fla.) with 93 points.

Medal winners for the Bearcats were Craig Cooper, who won the high jump with a leap of 6-feet-4, and was on the winning 4-by-400-meter relay team with his brother Greg Cooper, Terry Reynolds and Cedric Jones. Their winning time was 3 minute, 43.63 seconds.

Greg Cooper also won a medal as part of the Bearcats’ first-place 4-by-100-meter relay team, with Terry Reynolds, Martz Vickers and Cedric Jones. Their time was 44.53.

Charlie Emanuel won medals for his second-place finishes in the discus throw and the shot put. He had a discus throw of 105 feet, 2 inches, and a shot put throw of 38 feet, 3 inches.

Chris Johnson won the first-place medal in the discus with a throw of 113 feet. Terry Reynolds won the first-place medal in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.19.

Other Bearcats medals included Aundrel Bowden’s second-place triple jump of 39 feet, 1 inch and Steven Johnson’s third-place triple jump of 38 feet, 11 inches.

Among the young Lady Cats capturing medals in Tallahassee were Paige Braswell, who was second in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 13:36.71, and the second-place 4-by-400-meter relay team of Jasmine Price, Terrika Green, Raven Burney and Tameria Levens that finished with a time of 4:27.97.

Burney placed second in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 7 inches.

Tearnee Harvin placed first in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 12.92 seconds, and was third in the long jump, with a distance of 15 feet, 3 inches.

Green was second in the high jump, with a leap of 4 feet, 4 inches. Price had a second-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:05.45, and was third in the high jump, with a leap of 4 feet, 2 inches.

Zakiya Calloway captured third-place medals in the 300-meter hurdles and the 100-meter hurdles. Her times, respectively, were 1:00.01 and 21.06.
