Bearcats win Friday, lose Saturday

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats basketball team won a Friday night game decisively on the road and dropped a close Saturday night game at home,

On Friday, coach Rickey McCullough’s Bearcats, who are 3-2 for the season,  defeated the Colquitt County High School Packers 82-45 in Moultrie and on Saturday they dropped a 47-42 overtime game to the Thomasville High School Bulldogs at home.

In Moultrie, the Bearcats were led by Rodney Glenn and Paul Chukes with 17 points apiece. Trea Kelly and Dontavious Marshall added 12 each.

No Packer player was able to break into the double figure scoring column. They were led by E’Darius Davis with nine points.

A three-point jumper from the right baseline by Dontavious Marshall, with three seconds remaining, tied the score 34-34 and sent Saturday night’s game with Thomasville to overtime.

Marshall’s game-tying bucket culminated a 10-2 scoring run down the fourth quarter stretch .

Rodney Glenn’s attempted three point shot at the buzzer just rimmed out.

“We have got to do a better job of making our free throws,” coach McCullough said following the Thomasville game. “We did a better job Friday night in Moultrie and also played good defense.”

Paul Chukes led the way for the Bearcats Saturday night with 15 points. Willie Clayton, the Bulldogs 6 foot, 8 inch center, took game scoring honors with 21.

The Bulldogs Trey Gosier, who finished with 13 points, sealed the victory with two free throws with 8.9 seconds remaining in overtime.
