BAINBRIDGE-DECATUR COUNTY YMCA board of directors chairman Erwin Harrell, left, welcomes YMCA interim CEO Michael Haynes to the community.

Mike Haynes, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., who has managed small and mid-sized YMCA’s in Kentucky and Georgia, has been named interim CEO of the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA.

Haynes took over his new duties on Thursday, Sept. 1. He is one of 19 retired YMCA directors from various parts of the country, who were selected by national YMCA headquarters in Chicago to assist YMCA’s having financial problems.

Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA Board of Directors Chairman Erwin Harrell said Haynes has been granted full authority to access and recommend necessary program changes and additions so the community’s YMCA can once again see healthy growth as it begins its celebration of 25 years of service to Bainbridge and Decatur County.

“We believe a YMCA professional who has the proven track record and years of experience like Mike can quickly assess our current situation and recommend short and long term steps to place our YMCA on solid footing in serving our community,” Harrell said.

Haynes said he is pleased to step in and assist the Bainbridge-Decatur County board, volunteers and staff during this important time.

“A YMCA dedicated to meeting the needs of its community is a key factor as we look toward the board-approved next steps of executing a successful succession plan,” he said. “My pledge is to help the board, staff and members set a positive course for the future of this wonderful YMCA Association.

“I am looking forward to meeting the YMCA members, community leaders and others soon. The rich history of YMCA’s lies in the many lives they have touched in such a positive way.”
