Jaunaus Florence and Keith Johnson were just a few of the many who gathered at the Earle May Boat Basin Sunday morning to begin grilling chicken, ribs, hot dogs and hamburgers for the Black Men United Friends and Family Day. This was the 30th year the event has been celebrated in Bainbridge. Johnson said the event usually attracts more than 1,000 people each year and all the food is free to anyone who wants to come. The day of family fun, which included a DJ and train rides for the children, is supported by fund-raisers held by the BMU. Committee members include James Lodman, who is one of the event founders, Norris Akins, Rod Martin, Melvin Bowen, Efferen Willingham, Curtis and Hurtis Keaton, Tim Frazier, Howad Smart, Patrick Clark, Greg Breedlove and Elizabeth Anderson.
