4-H Shotgun Team attends state match

DECATUR COUNTY 4-H SHOTGUN TEAM members with coaches participate in the State 4-H Modified Trap Competition at Rock Eagle.

The Decatur County 4-H Shotgun Team competed in the 2011 State 4-H Modified Trap Competition at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on May 7.

The 17 Decatur County 4-H’ers competed against more than 810 other 4-H’ers from across the state.

Decatur County 4-H Junior Team members participating at Rock Eagle included Colby Boyett, Spencer Shreves, Brenden Greene, Daniel Poitevint, Tyler Allen and Dustin Moore.

Senior Team members competing included Justin Maxwell, Cody Powell, Jacob Hall, Maclane Suber, James Wilson, Trey Suber, Landen Bryant, Dylan Harrell, Ryan Jordan, Will Dozier and Christopher Webster.

In order to attend the state match, all team members must participate in a district qualification match. In the qualification match, juniors must break 16 out of 25 targets, and seniors must break 20 out of 25 targets to qualify for the state match.

Decatur County 4-H hosted a district qualification match at Commodore Industrial Park on April 14. Decatur County 4-H’ers also competing in the district qualification match included Zach Toole, Jason Long and Chason Phillips.

Spencer Shreves was named second highest junior individual at the district qualification match, and Brenden Greene was named third highest junior individual.

Team members have been practicing diligently each week since February under the guidance of dedicated volunteer coaches. Coaches for the Decatur County 4-H Shotgun Team are Joe McGlincy, Gary Phillips, Todd Powell and Mitchell May from Decatur County Extension.

The Georgia 4-H Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education Program (S.A.F.E) is sponsored by The Georgia 4-H Foundation. 4-H is the youth development program of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
