More than 500 student athletes were examined at last Thursday’s annual athletes physicals day at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.

Decatur County School System athletic trainer Chris Summers, who annually coordinates the  event, expressed his appreciation to the many medical professionals who volunteered their time for the event.

“I want to thank all the doctors, nurses and others who helped today,” Summers said during a Thursday break.

Volunteering their service during the physicals were Memorial Hospital staff and doctors, Bainbridge Medical Association, Southern Orthopedic, students from the Bainbridge College licensed  practical nursing program and Decatur County School System nurses.

Summers said  the volunteer doctors and nurses, along with the school system coaches, who helped direct the student athletes to the proper place, were very instrumental in helping make the free physical day a success.

“It was a team effort,” he said. “Everyone chipped in, and everything went pretty smoothly.”
