BHS swim teams honored

The Bainbridge High School boys and girls’ swim teams held their year-end banquet at the Golden Corral restaurant on March 9.
Most Valuable Performer awards were given to Hillary Barfield, Zach McConnell and Lucas Nesmith.
Jackson Jones and Autumn Chestnut were given the Top Newcomers’ awards.
Will Dozier received the Most Improved Swimmer award.
Laura Cerone received the Senior Swimmer award.
Alex Hughes received the High Point award, while Sarah Margaret Bush received the Coach’s award.
Boys highlights
Both teams enjoyed a good season and competed in six meets, including the Region 1-AAAA meet held at Darton College and hosted by Lee County.
While the team’s small numbers kept them out of the running for team awards, individual swimmers had many highlight moments.
Zach McConnell recorded three 1st place and two 2nd place finishes in the 100-meter breast stroke. McConnell also had one 1st place finish in the 200-meter freestyle.
Lucas Nesmith recorded two 1st places and two 3rd place finishes in the 100-meter backstroke. Nesmith also had one 1st place, two 2nd places, and one 3rd place finish in the 200-meter individual medley.
Alex Hughes recorded two 1st place and one 2nd place finish in the 50-meter freestyle. Hughes also had two 1st places and one 2nd place finish in the 100-meter freestyle.
Jackson Jones recorded two 2nd places and one 3rd place finish in the 50-meter freestyle. Jones also had one 2nd place and one 3rd place finish in the 100-meter freestyle.
Girls and relay team highlights
Hillary Barfield recorded a 3rd place finish in the 100-meter breast stroke.
Laura Cerone recorded a 3rd place finish in the 100-meter freestyle.
The boys 200-meter medley relay team of Jones, McConnell, Nesmith and Hughes recorded two 1st place, one 2nd place, and one 3rd place finish.
