Coach Chip Ariail’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats soccer team evened their record at 2-2 with a 2-1 victory over the previously undefeated Brooks County Lady Trojans on Tuesday night at Centennial Field.

The Lady Cats broke the scoring ice in the fifth minute when sophomore midfielder Savannah Cook pushed a pass outside the right side of the penalty area to senior midfielder Robbi Howard.

Howard promptly scored on a shot from 16 yards out. The Lady Cats extended their lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute when Cook lofted a shot into the net from 16 yards out.

Cook received a pass from Lady Cat defender Anye Miller, who promptly put the ball in.

The Lady Trojans’ goal came on a scramble play in the penalty area close to the goal in the 70th minute.

The score came off a free kick that deflected off several Lady Cats defenders and onto a charging Lady Trojans forward, who tapped the shot in from two yards out.

“We started off slowly, but through relentless play we were able to improve over the course of the contest,” Coach Ariail said after the game.

“Our big concern is maintaining our team shape and possession throughout the game,” he said. “Towards the end we lost a little of both, which is crucial going into Region 1AAAA play.

“I thought senior forward Bailey Wells, sophomore midfielder Caitlyn Cato and senior defender Candace Perkins really stepped up their game.”
