No. 3 – ‘Fishers of Men’ filmed in Bainbridge

“Fishers of Men,” a faith-based independent feature film, was shot in Bainbridge this past fall.

Representatives of Desert Wind Films, the production company that developed “Fishers of Men,” showed off a minute-long trailer and an extended video montage at First Baptist Church on Dec. 16.

Desert Wind Films is currently working on post-production for the movie; the “rough cut” edit of the movie is about two-thirds complete and conversations with potential distribution partners are underway, said Steven Camp, executive producer of “Fishers of Men” and the chief financial officer of Desert Wind Films.

There are plans to hold the movie’s grand premiere next April or May in Bainbridge, with an initial theatrical release to follow soon after in 2011, Camp said.

One-hundred-one local people had background roles in the movie, almost all of which was shot in Bainbridge and Climax. The Decatur County Courthouse, Willis Park, the old West Bainbridge Middle/High School and the old Climax elementary school are some the film’s featured locations.

No. 4 – Student Wellness Center opens

The Bainbridge College Student Wellness Center opened its doors on Oct. 26, two years to the date of when the college’s other signature building—the Charles H. Kirbo Regional Center—opened its doors.

The more than $20 million building—which is being paid for by a $125 per student, per semester fee—allow BC students to work out on 40 new cardiovascular machines, 40 weight-training stations, play basketball or volleyball inside its polished courts, walk on an elevated track surrounding the court, play ping-pong or billiards, eat in a 150-seat dining cafeteria, and purchase books and supplies from a well-appointed bookstore.

The Student Wellness Center allows students to casually gather or informally participate in sports or exercise, and it is the first building dedicated to student life since the college was constructed in 1973. The center will host its first graduation ceremony in the spring.

More importantly, the building was constructed under budget, within the stated contract date and with not one change order.
