Velma M. Jackson

Services for Velma Mae Clayton Jackson, 84, of Bainbridge, were held Saturday, Nov. 27, at Nelson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bainbridge with the Rev. Jams A. Platt officiating.

Interment was in Pineview Cemetery in Bainbridge with Charles Walker, Patrick Jones, Harris Ross, Allen Gaines, Tony Gaines, Caiaphius Neal and Calvin Scott acting as pallbearers.

Mrs. Jackson was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Bainbridge, Ga., and died Nov. 20, 2010. She was a lifetime member of Nelson Chapel AME Church where she served as a steward. She was a 1946 graduate of Hutto High School and furthered her education at Madame C.J. Walker of Cosmetology School in Savannah. She worked for many years as a beautician and later as a certified nursing assistant at Memorial Manor before her retirement.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Clayton, Adolphus Clayton Jr. and Carvin Clayton; and one sister, Virgline Clayton Beard.

Survivors include four children, Jessie Jerome Moore, Michael Moore, Bartholomew Jackson and Leslie Renee Venisee, all of Bainbridge; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Bruton Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
