A funeral service for Potter Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Johns Potter, 101, of Chattahoochee, Fla., will be held Thursday, April 1, at First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, Fla., with the Revs. Marty Smith and Barry Cottle officiating.
Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Chattahoochee. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee.
Born March 26, 1909, in the Recovery community of Decatur County, Ga., Mrs. Potter died on Monday, March 29, 2010, at Signature Health Care at the Courtyard in Marianna, Fla.
Mrs. Potter was a retired food service supervisor with Florida State Hospital, a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, where she was active in the 39ers Choir. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Washington Chapter 43 in Quincy, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Barnes Potter; a daughter, Katherine Jeannett Poindexter; her sister, Varou Holt; and three brothers, Alton Johns, Alvin Johns and Paul Johns.
Survivors include her son, William E. “Eddie” Potter of Chattahoochee, Fla.; four daughters, Doris Eugenia Pinson of St. Augustine, Fla., Jacquelyn Bennett of Greenwood, Fla., Gwendolyn “Gwendy” Ford of Malone, Fla., and Gloria Elizabeth Alday of San Antonio, Texas; her brother, Wilson Johns of Winterville, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
