Graveside funeral services for L. Franklin Whigham Jr., 78, of Cartersville, Ga., formerly of Bainbridge, Ga., and Indiatlantic, Fla.) will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Oak City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Born on March 18, 1931, in Bainbridge, Mr. Whigham died on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, in Cartersville.

He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1947, and the University of Georgia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He owned Southland Dairies and Whigham Farms in Bainbridge for many years and was a retired real estate developer in Florida and Georgia.

Mr. Whigham and his wife, Shirlianne, lived in The Holy Land from 2002 to 2007 and operated a bed and breakfast in the mountains of Samaria and became involved in a ministry working with victims of terror. He was a member of the Beit Israel Congregation in Orlando, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Chapman Whigham.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Shirlianne Sharber Whigham of Cartersville, Ga.; two sons, James Whigham of Cartersville, Ga., and Benjamin Whigham of Orlando, Fla.; four daughters, Sarah Whigham Mills of Orlando, Fla., Cheryll Whigham of Melbourne, Fla., Christina Whigham Jarrell of Cartersville, Ga., and Rachel Whigham of Cartersville, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
