Robert W. Thomas, 73, of Climax, Ga., formerly of Cairo, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lynn Hurley officiating. A private interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mr. Thomas was born September 19, 1942 in Jacksonville, Fla., the son of Paul Franklin Thomas, Sr. and Barbara June Mauldin Thomas. He was married to Sandra Cooke Thomas. Mr. Thomas served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Later he met many people on his sales route with Flowers Baking Company.

Robert was a member of Climax United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He loved people and loved to serve. He spent 25 years as a Climax City Councilman and was a member of the committee responsible for erecting the Veterans Memorial in Parker Park. His passion for people spilled over into every area of his life. He assisted with establishing a softball league in Climax and spent many wonderful years on the field as an umpire and cheerleader for every player.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Thomas; his children, Rosalyn Hubbard and her husband, Bob, of Montgomery, Ala. and Rob Pennington and his wife, Kim, of Gulf Shores, Ala; his brothers, Paul F. Thomas, Jr. and his wife, Sherry, of Randleman, NC and John Thomas and his wife, JoAnn, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Rebekah, Nicolas, Robbie, Sara, and Parker. Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
