Jeanette Chason Eakin, 80, of Bainbridge, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 with her family at her side.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Maranatha Baptist Church with Rev. Haskell White officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Ray McConnell, Gary McConnell, Van Eakin, Christopher Eakin, Stephen Eakin, and Michael Eakin serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at

Mrs. Eakin was born December 10, 1934 in Whigham, Ga., the daughter of John Harvey Chason and Annie Lora Morgan Chason. She was a graduate of Climax High School and was a dedicated homemaker. Jeanette was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church. She was a woman who showered her family and friends with unconditional love and support. She had helping hands and open ears whenever anyone needed them. She was the glue to her family and a sweet safe haven for all. Although she will be deeply missed, she is in her new home with Jesus, a home where she will feel nothing but joy and everlasting peace.
Survivors include her children, Debra King and her husband, Ricky, of Donalsonville, Ga., Kay Clees and her husband, James, of Eldorendo, Ga., Mark Eakin and his wife, Debra, of Bainbridge, Earl Eakin of Bainbridge, and Joel Eakin and his wife, Nora, of Valdosta, Ga.; her siblings, Hollis Chason of Whigham, and Jean Harrell of Whigham; her 32 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vanburen “Dick” Eakin; her children, Arthur Eakin, Steve Eakin, Dennis Eakin, Rodney Eakin, and Richard Eakin; her siblings, Louise Wimberley, Myrtle Thomas, Inez Singletery, and Carroll Chason; and her granddaughter, Sonya Jeanette McConnell.
