Littleton named BHS football coach

The Decatur County Board of Education announced the hiring of a new head football coach for Bainbridge High School. The Bearcats’ new head coach is Jeff Littleton, the former defensive coordinator at Cairo High School. He teaches weightlifting and general physical education.

“I am looking forward to getting started. There is much opportunity here in Bainbridge and we are very happy to be here,” said Littleton.

“I have had a lot of respect for Bainbridge for many years, going back to when I played in high school and I have fond memories of how physical they were back then. I want to bring that back and that is what we will strive for,” continued Littleton.

A native of Sylvester, Ga., Littleton attended Worth County High School and played football and baseball for the Rams. He played in two state championships in football while at Worth County, winning the Class AAA state championship in 1987. Littleton earned his college degree at Valdosta State in Business Management in 1993.

While in college, he was a student assistant in football under Milt Miller at Lowndes High School. He went on to coach at Dooly County, Worth County and Tift County and then to Cairo High S

Littleton’s wife, Kristi, teaches math at Cairo High School. The couple have two daughters, Anna Kate, 9, and Emily, 5.

The board also approved the hiring of Scott Roberts, a former assistant football coach with Tift County High School. Before going to Tifton, Roberts had coaching stints at Fitzgerald, Colquitt County, Washington County and Cairo. He also served as the athletic director and head football coach at Swainsboro High School for two years.

Roberts will serve as the offensive coordinator.

A native of Ocilla, Georgia, Roberts was a four-sport athlete at Irwin County High School, including quarterback of the football team. He attended South Georgia College where he was a member of the baseball team. After graduating from Georgia Southern University with a BBA in Finance, he served one year as a graduate assistant coach on the baseball team at Georgia Southwestern. Roberts has two daughters and a son.
