For their final meeting in March, members of the Bainbridge Lions Club welcomed Mr. Scott Ewing to tell them about the Decatur County Schools’ Foundation.  Since 1997, the Foundation has provided grant funding in support of academic and cultural activities beyond the normal, tax-supported classroom curriculum.  The Foundation is a non-profit organization, operating separately from the Decatur County School District and managed by a Board of Directors drawn from the local community.

Grants made by the Foundation offer an opportunity for all students to be exposed to a broad range of highly recognized enterprises in cultural, historic and technical fields.  Students are made aware of accomplishments by local leaders as well as recognized leaders in artistic and industrial or commercial operations beyond our region.  For example, grants have made it possible for students to enjoy the Atlantic Coast Theater, visit the Gulf Marine Specimen Lab and the Savannah History Museum, and engage with Science and Math Models.  These and many other activities are a reward for academic excellence, intended to create a climate where attainment of high scholastic goals is a primary objective.

The accomplishments of our students are the building blocks for the success of future endeavors in our community.  Tax-deductible contributions to the Foundation are investments in support of that future success and may be mailed to P. O. Box 1070, Bainbridge, GA, 39818.
