Jean McNeil Stone

Jean McNeil Stone, 91, of Blacksburg, Va., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Mt. Carmel Methodist Cemetery.

Jean grew up in Kingsport, Tenn., and attended Milligan College and the University of Tennessee. She married Harold Stone after he finished serving in the Army Air Corps in World War II. She then lived her early married life in Marion, Va. In 1970, Harold and she moved to Bainbridge, for Harold to join his brother at Stone’s Home Centers. She then moved to Blacksburg in June 2001.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Johnston Stone, of Blacksburg; her parents, Hexie Monroe McNeil and Mary Vaught McNeil of Kingsport, Tenn.; a brother, Charles Monroe McNeil of Destin, Fla.; and a sister, Margaret McNeil Ross of Kingsport.

She is survived by her son, Dr. James Hexie Stone and his wife, Maria Carter Stone; two grandsons, Dr. James Johnston Stone and his sons, Harold Johnston Stone and James Norwood Stone, all of Richmond, Va. and Andrew Hexie Stone and his wife Taryn DeStasio of San Francisco, Calif.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church Youth Ministries,  2101 Shadowlake Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Warm Heath Center, Hospice and the caretakers that so lovingly cared for her.
