Local charged with attempted homicide

A Bainbridge man is being held at the Leon County, Fla., Jail, after he allegedly broke into a Tallahassee, Fla., home early Sunday, fired a shotgun and threatened to kill his wife and two other people.

27-year-old Jesse Andrew Torres of 1212 Majestic Ave., was arrested by Bainbridge Public Safety officers at around 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15.

Torres is accused of breaking into a northeast Tallahassee home at around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, according a news release from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. Torres had allegedly followed his wife and two of her friends, a man and a woman, to the home after they had left an outdoor party in Climax on Saturday night.

Torres forcibly entered the residence, armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, according to the news release. The man who owned the home reportedly struggled with Torres and then fled to a bedroom. Torres then allegedly fired the shotgun through the bedroom door and into the room where his wife, her friend and a homeowner were hiding.

Torres then struck his wife in the face with the shotgun, threatened to kill to kill her and the other two people and then left the residence, the news release stated.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office contacted Bainbridge Public Safety and informed them of the incident. BPS investigators and officers went to Torres’ residence at 1212 Majestic Ave., where he was arrested without incident, Investigator Mark Esquivel said. The shotgun Torres took to Tallahassee was recovered from his home, Esquivel said.

Torres is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, burglary with a person assaulted or battered and attempted homicide.
