Suspects in scrap metal theft named

The Decatur County Jail has released the names of the five individuals arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing scrap metal off railroad cars and property belonging to CSX Railroad.

The five suspects, all of whom are charged with theft by taking and criminal intrusion on railroad property are as follows: Michael Duane Brown, 24, 1310 Brinson St., Bainbridge; Lathonia Joann Darley, 25, 3867 Faceville Highway, Bainbridge; Brandon Lee Dean, 25, 3867 Faceville Highway, Bainbridge; David Neal McNair, 36, 190 Hales Landing Road, Bainbridge; and Franciscoe Isado Stevens, 34, 1017 Water St., Bainbridge.

Stevens was also charged with contempt of court (child support).

 

Counterfeit money reported

On Jan. 13, an employee of the Quick Buys store at 167 Whigham Dairy Road reported that a man pre-paid for $40 worth of gas using two $20 bills that turned out to be counterfeit.

The suspect was described as a young white male in a four-door, mid-sized SUV, gold in color,with a mounted roof rack. He had a slender build with short hair, was wearing a red or orange long-sleeved shirt with a blue shirt underneath, khaki pants and sunglasses.

The two $20 bills bore the same serial number. That serial number turned up again on Tuesday, Jan. 17, when Peoples South Bank reported finding a fake $20 bill among money deposited by the Kangaroo Pantry on Tallahassee Highway.

Sheriff’s Investigator Terry Phillips turned over the evidence in the case to the U.S. Secret Service, which investigates counterfeit cases. Anyone with more information about who may have passed the bills is asked to call Investigator Phillips at (229) 248-3044.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18, an employee of the Quick Buys on Whigham Dairy Road reported that a customer tried to use a fake $10 bill at the store. The customer, who was still at the store, told the responding sheriff’s deputy she had received the $10 bill as change from a Bainbridge fast-food restaurant.

 

Arrests and Citations

The following  arrests and citations, a list of those occurring between Jan. 17 and Jan. 20, have been reported by the Decatur County Jail and Bainbridge Public Safety:

• Balinda Kaye Bennett, 48, Donalsonville, Ga., DUI, failure to drive within single lane, no insurance, driving with no license on person, BPS;

• Markise Monta Jones, 27, 719 Planter St., Bainbridge, driving without a license, BPS;

• Tovarus Renardo Chambers, 23, Gretna, Fla., possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), open container, GSP;

• Kenneth Charles Moore, 20, Quincy, Fla., DUI, reckless driving, speeding, possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), open container, GSP;

• Antwane Deon Graham, 26, Albany, Ga., possession of marijuana by an inmate, SO.
