The Bainbridge Rotary Club presented a $2,250 grant to the Bainbridge High School Junior ROTC program during the weekly meeting Tuesday.

Club President Mike Harrell presented the check to Col. Gary Breedlove, director of the program, along with cadets Erick Juarez and Tiffany Blocker.

The funds will help offset expenses associated with traveling to the national drill competition scheduled for early May in Daytona Beach, Fla.

“This will be our tenth consecutive year competing in this national drill competition,” Breedlove said. “We focus on that competition year round, and we never want to leave a kid at home because of money, so these funds will go toward the transportation cost.”

Juarez, who will serve as the drill team commander and is also nominated for a scholarship associated with the competition, said, “The Daytona National High School Drill Team championships is the grandest competition in the world. Our team will be one of 65 teams competing, and we are practicing very hard.”

Col. Breedlove also announced during the meeting that after 50 years in uniform, his retirement would become effective at the end of the school year.
