Lady Cats blank Lady Cougars 10-0

Coach Chip Ariail’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats soccer team featured a balanced scoring effort Tuesday night in their 10-0 victory over the Crisp County Lady Cougars in Cordele.

Eight different players scored goals and five recorded assists.

Lady Cats senior midfielder Rosa Miranda was fouled in the penalty area in the first minute. She converted a penalty kick to the right side to put the Lady Cats up 1-0.

In the third minute, senior forward Leanna Flowers scored a goal from 8 yards out after taking a pass from senior forward Whitney Thomas.

Two more goals were scored within two minutes of each other to increase the Lady Cats’ lead to 4-0. First midfielder Savannah Cook followed up a Flowers’ shot in front of the goal to score in the fifth minute, then senior midfielder Aubrie Provence shot and scored from the right corner of the 6-yard box in the seventh minute. Flowers picked up the assist.

Flowers scored a goal in the 12th minute, with an assist by Flowers, to make it 5-0.

The Lady Cats scored four more first-half goals to walk off with a 9-0 halftime lead. Junior midfielder Candice Perkins assisted with the sixth goal in the 12th minute. She sent a ball toward the center of the 6-yard box from the left side, and it was redirected by a Lady Cougars defender into her own net.

The final three first-half goals were scored by junior midfielder Bailey Wells in the 21st minute, Flowers in the 22nd minute and sophomore forward Brianna Williams in the 32nd minute. Williams scored after taking a pass from sophomore defender Ashten Oldaker on the left side.

Senior defender Shaquala Akins closed out the scoring in the 44th minute She stole a ball from a Lady Cougars defender and hit a left-footed shot from 6 yards out from center.

Coach Ariail liked his team’s overall effort against the Lady Cougars, pointing out that they were able to dictate the flow of the match.

“I was pleased with the way we moved the ball around,” he said. “Goalkeepers Lindsay Unfricht, Leanna Flowers and Whitney Thomas all had a hand in the shutout.”
