CC runners honored

The naming of two players to the All-Region 1-AAAA team and highlighted Thursday night’s banquet honoring region champion Bainbridge High School Lady Cats and Bearcats cross-country teams.

In her presentations of awards to the most outstanding boy and girl runners, Coach Mandi O’Mara praised April Thomas for giving her best effort in every single meet and called Cody Heard a runner who demonstrated talent beyond measure the past two years.

April Thomas and Frankie Warren earned All-Region 1-AAAA honors by finishing first and second at the Region 1-AAAA meet in Jones County.

Thomas, who set a new Spring Hill Christmas Tree Farm, 3.1-mile girls course record at the Saturday, Sept. 20. Bearcat Invitational Meet with a time of 21 minutes, 6 seconds, was 13th at the State Class AAAA Meet in Carrollton, the highest finish a BHS runner has ever recorded at the state level.

McGlincy earned her Scholar Athlete honor by maintaining an A+ academic average and scoring above 1,000 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

O’Mara gave special recognition to her team captains, Warren, Caroline Rollins, Heard, Richie Hughes and Dylan Faircloth, who she called great role models for younger kids.

O’Mara began the night’s presentations by naming Lucie Reynolds the most-improved girl runner and Davey Reynolds the most-improved boy runner.

Rookie of the Year awards went to first-year girl runner McGlincy and first-year boy runner Erick Juarez.

Coaches’ awards for outstanding leadership and attitude went to girls Warren and Rollins and boys Hughes and Faircloth.

Special recognition for leadership providing and hard work were presented to seniors Warren, Hughes, Sydney Lopez, Jerica Richardson, Hunter Bulger and Kevin Cox.

The banquet was held at the First United Methodist Church’s fellowship hall.
