Harmonies rang true Tuesday night at First Baptist Church as the Bainbridge High School Department of Choral Arts presented their Holiday Sounds concert.

The concert featured performances by the BHS Chorale, Bella Canta and the Concert Choir.

The concert began with holiday music played on the piano and organ by church musicians Newana Williams and Pat Adams. Voices of the choir followed as the Bella Canta’s performed “Carol of the Bells” from the church balcony. Other songs performed by the Bella Canta were “Coventry Carol” and “Gloria in Exccelsis.”

The BHS Chorale performed “Sanctus” and “Born ‘Neath a Star.”

The Concert Choir performed “Lullay, my Liking,” “Bethlehemtown” and “Roun’ the Glory Manger.”

Between the choral performance there were a number of solo, duet and quartet performances of songs such as “In a Manger,” “Holy, Uncreated One,” “In December,” “O Holy Night,” “Let it Snow” and “Your Grace Still Amazes Me.”

All three choral groups came together for a grand finale performance of “Joy to the World.”

Claritha Jacobs, BHS choral director, said she was immensely gratified with the performance and effort given by her soloists, small ensembles and chorus.

“This concert ranks as one of the most special concerts given during my tenure at BHS,” said Jacobs. “It was a really blessed concert. I was overwhelmed.”

Looking forward to 2009, chorus members have been working hard with the BHS Choral Booster Club to raise money for their trip to the Smoky Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, Tenn., in the spring. They have conducted numerous fund-raisers, including holiday gift wrapping events, selling barbecue and holding bake sales.

In addition to their performance at First Baptist Church, the BHS Choral groups have been spreading the Yuletide spirit by caroling through the halls of BHS and in a recent performance at First Port City Bank on Thursday.
