Members of the Board of Education met in closed session Tuesday to discuss the disciplinary action it may consider against an assistant principal over the paddling of a student at Potter Street Elementary School.

The meeting, which was a special called meeting, adjourned without action, said Decatur County School Superintendent Ralph Jones.

However, the regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday may shed more light on what action the BOE members will take against the school’s assistant principal, Jeanette Grimsley, and other policy issues that may be addressed in response to the incident.

On Feb. 6, a 9-year-old student was paddled three times in one day by Grimsley, according to an incident report filed the child’s mother, Christina White. She told police she became aware of the bruising when her child got home from school and complained of having pain from being paddled.
