Lady Cats advance to Elite 8

Coach Nicki Shockley’s Region 1-AAAA champion Bainbridge High School Lady Cats tennis team defeated the South Effingham High School Lady Mustangs 4-0 Monday at the new BHS courts to advance to the Elite 8 round of the State Class AAAA Tournament.

The Lady Cats, a No. 1 seed in the tournament, will host the Elite 8 round at BHS sometime by next Tuesday for a berth in the State Class AAAA Final 4. Their opponent will be either Lakeside-Evans of Augusta or Hardaway of Columbus.

Earlier in April, the Lady Bearcats defeated Hardaway 5-0 in the first round of the Region 1-AAAA tournament.

In singles, Katie Monson, playing at number one, won 6-1, 6-1, and Kylie McGlincy, playing at number two, won 7-5, 7-6, with a 7-5 tie breaker.

Lady Cats number three singles player Anne Reynolds dropped a close 4-6 first set to her Lady Mustang opponent, and was trailing just 2-3 in the second set when they were pulled from the court because the match was already decided.

The difference was made by victories by the Lady Cats doubles teams.

The team of Caroline Rollins and Kristen Monson, playing at number one, defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-0 and the team of Kelsey Lambert and Anna Wells, playing at number two, won 6-0, 6-1.
