County facing hard choices

LOOKING OVER THE PROPOSED BUDGET for Decatur County’s 2011-2012 fiscal year, which begins in July, are, from left to right, County Administrator Tom Patton, Board of Commissioners Chairman David “Butch” Mosely and County Finance Director Carl Rowland.

County employees won’t get a cost of living adjustment to their salaries after all, another consequence of the tough choices Decatur County commissioners are facing as they finalize their proposed 2011-2012 budget.

The $17.5 million budget brought to the table at a workshop meeting on Monday will probably be the one commissioners adopt next week, though some citizens are unhappy about the millage increase that would come with the new budget.

County Commissioner Earl Perry said Friday that he and other members are working on a written response to requests and feedback citizens made at this past Wednesday night’s public hearing on the budget. That document should be released Tuesday, he said.
