Monday will mark the beginning of this year’s Oscar Jackson Outdoor Camp. Kids will be treated to a range of activities this year, from outdoor activities at the Boat Basin, Seminole State Park and Wakulla Springs, to visiting the Taurus gun range and the Bainbridge Public Safety training facility.

City special events coordinator Randee Eubanks spoke with the Post-Searchlight about this year’s program, which has already filled up with 140 kids, more than the previous year. “We have around 35 kids per week,” she said, “which is a little bit more than we did last year.” Part of the reason this expansion was possible was the addition of four more counselors. The city has also extended the program’s length over the years; previously just three weeks long, the city lengthened it to four last year. “We have been talking about expanding the program a little bit, maybe into five weeks, it’s just hard to fund the time during the summer and not getting into the Fourth of July and holidays, stuff like that,” Eubanks said.

While registration has already filled up, there is a waiting list, should any openings become available.

“We’re just looking forward to a great summer at Oscar Jackson,” Eubanks concluded.
