Seventh grade Bearcats football claws out victory against Dothan

The Bainbridge Middle school 7th grade football team wrapped up their 2019 season as they travelled to Rip Hewes stadium in Dothan last Thursday and defeated the Dothan Preparatory Academy 48-6 in the season finale.

The Bearcats struck first at the 2:56 mark, in the first period, as running back Tashun Carter scored a touchdown from four yards out. Running Back Thomas Brenton’s run for the 2pt. conversion failed and Bainbridge led 6-0.

Dothan responded with a 42 yard run for a touchdown, with 1:04 left in the quarter, but Bainbridge’s defense stiffened, stopping the conversion run keeping the score tied at 6.

But on the ensuing Kick-off, Carter received the ball at the Bainbridge 28 yard line and weaved through several Wolves defenders before breaking loose for a 72 yard touchdown. Quarterback Daniel Pyles completed a pass to Keymarion Cox for the 2pt. conversion and Bainbridge extended the lead 16-6 with 48 seconds left in the period.

Bainbridge got a turnover on the first play, following the kick-off, as  Bearcat Defensive Lineman Delvron Jackson forced a fumble and recovered it at the Dothan 26.

Three plays later Brenton scored a touchdown from 10 yards out. He ran a misdirection play to the right, receiving a flip-toss pass from Quarterback Camryn Scott and then ran outside un- touched for the score. The conversion failed and with 7:40 remaining until half time, the Bearcats led 20-6 .

Bainbridge scored again with only seven seconds left in the first half, as Carter scored again, this time from 15 yards out. The conversion for the 2pt conversion failed and Bainbridge had a 26-6 half time lead.

Bainbridge scored twice in the third quarter both by Carter, as he scored on runs of 20 yards (4:37 mark) and 26 yards (with 19 seconds left).

Bainbridge Wide receiver Keith Gaines scored a Two point conversion reception on a pass play from Pyles, following the first score of the quarter, giving Bainbridge a commanding 40-6 lead.

The Bearcats scored their final touchdown with 2:57 remaining as Pyles raced in from10 yards out. Running Back Jaden Smart ran in the two point conversion to give Bainbridge a 48-6 lead and what proved to be the final scoring on the night.

Bainbridge finished with a record of 2-4 overall, but vastly improved over the course of the season scoring at least 40 points in each of their last two games.
