Dance line, color guard prepare to wow Bearcat fans on Friday nights

Dance line and color guard began choreography this week for the upcoming season under the Friday night-lights.
Leigh Powell and Charlotte Donalson are new sponsors for dance line and are excited to begin a new chapter with the team.
The team has a total of 22 girls, with eight seniors and eight newcomers. Powell and Donalson are most excited about the beginning song, which is a mash up of Prince and Bruno Mars, however they want the concert to stay a surprise for guests and have not decided on a closing song yet.
“I think it is going to be a really fun show,” Donalson said. “It’s going to appeal to all ages.”
“Definitely fresh,” Powell agreed. “People all across the board will love it, and we have new props.”
Co-captains, Ansley Walker and Ashton Brock are most looking forward to performing the routines and a trip they will take later in the season. The trip is one of a few new ideas Powell and Donalson have incorporated. The trip will include Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York City. The girls will have the opportunity to see the Rockettes and perform in the Philadelphia parade.
Powell and Donalson’s other new ideas include community service work with the team. They would really love to give back to the community, who always cheers and supports them.
They also would like to host a little girl’s camp, similar to what the cheerleaders do in order to keep the interest in dance line alive. Powell said it was something they did in the past, and is something they hope to revisit.
Most of all, the team just looks forward to making memories out on the field with each other and color guard.
Junior color guard member, Hannah Downing is excited to introduce a new pole and rifle routine to the crowd.
“We are getting six foot poles to incorporate in the routine,” explained sponsor, Lori Brown.
Crowds also have some awesome new songs to look forward to, Downing said.
“We are doing Footloose and Old Town Road, and we are really excited about it,” she said.
“It’ll be more upbeat than people are used to,” Brown finished.
