Bainbridge takes shot at Shoot-Out

The Bainbridge Lady Cats basketball team found a little rhythm over the holiday break at the Vereen Rehabilitation Center Shoot-out in Moultrie, while the Bearcats continued to improve despite taking a pair of losses.

On Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, the Lady Cats (9-7, 1-1 Region) took their seventh loss of the season to Choctaw County, Florida, 54-45.

In double figures for the Lady Cats were Zycheria Russ with 13 points and Taralyn Brown with 12 points. Other scorers for the Lady Cats were Ziauna Andrews with 9 points, Detavia Salter with 6 points and Mycha Jena Harris with 5 points.

The Bearcats (6-8, 1-1 Region) fell to Lafayette 68-57 the same day. In double figures for the Bearcats were Anthony Florence with 17 points and JaKorian Lockhart with 10 points. Other scorers for the Bearcats were T.J. Tarver with 8 points, Tyrell Bryant with 7 points, Jeremiah Davis with 5 points, Dwayne Kyles with 4 points and Bryce Jones and Deyon Bouie with 3 points apiece.

The Lady Cats returned to the court to face Cook County on Friday, Dec. 28, and bounced the Lady Hornets 41-29. In double figures for the Lady Cats were Ziauna Andrews with 11 points and Zycheria Russ with 10 points. Other scorers for the Lady Cats were Destiny Turner with 8 points and Denise Chappell and Mycha Jena Harris with 6 points each.

Both teams got back out on Saturday, Dec. 29. The Lady Cats took down Coffee County 61-48 and the Bearcats took a heartbreaking 71-70 overtime loss to Chiles.

Zycheria Russ had 14 points and Tykeia Campbell scored 12 points to lead the Lady Cats. Other scorers were Detavia Salter with 9 points, Mycha Jena Harris with 8 points, Ziauna Andrews with 7 points, Taralyn Brown with 5 points, Denise Chappell with 4 points and Keyona Kia Crankfield with 2 points.

In double figures for the Bearcats were Bryce Jones with 15 points, TJ Tarver with 14 points and Anthony Florence and Jeremiah Davis with 12 points each. Other scorers for the Bearcats were Dewayne Kyles and Tyrell Bryant with 8 points each and JaKorian Lockhart with 1 point.

The Bearcats and Lady Cats took on Veterans Friday night and will play Berrien on Saturday at home. The girls tip off at 6 p.m. and the boys tip off at 7:30 p.m.
