Cougars take down Generals, Lady Cougars come up just short

The Grace Christian Academy boy’s basketball team played a close game on Friday against the Georgia Christian Generals, eventually outscoring them 56-49.

GCA led 19-11 in the first quarter, with Georgia Christian trailing behind them 29-26 at halftime. Holding onto the lead, GCA was 41-37 during the third quarter, and finished by scoring 15 points in the fourth.

Sam McRae racked up a total of 30 points. He made major moves on the court, especially at the 3-point line, hitting 6 of 9. He also went 2-for-5 at the free throw line.

Jaylen Jones was the other key player in Friday’s game. He added 18 points to the scoreboard, making one 3-pointer and going 3-for-7 at the line.

Between Jones and McRae, the two had 12 rebounds combined. Jones and McRae each had 2 steals and Jones had 1 assist.

De’Andre Rogers had a good night as well with 5 rebounds and 2 points for the Cougars.

The team will play at home on Friday night against Community Christian, where their game will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Cougars came up short Friday night in their game against the Georgia Christian Generals, with a score of 37-25.

GCA started the game slow, only scoring 6 points in the first quarter, while Georgia Christian scored 9. Going into halftime, the score was 17-10, with Georgia Christian still on top. The Lady Cougars returned from halftime with a newfound energy, scoring 10 points in the 4th quarter, but it wasn’t enough, as Georgia Christian continued to dominate with scoring 17 points in the 3rd quarter alone.

Emillia Woodrum led the team, scoring 9 points for the Lady Cougars. She additionally had 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

The Lady Cougar’s other key player for the game was Wells, who scored 5 points and went 1-for-4 at the free throw line. Wells made 4 offensive rebounds and 1 defensive rebound. She continued to try to stop the Generals by getting 1 steal.

McRae also led in rebounds, getting 2 offensive rebounds and 4 defensive rebounds.

The Lady Cougars played Friday against Georgia Christian and will play Community Christian on Friday at home. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m.
