Bearcat Basketball has proven once again how exceptional the athletes are at BHS. The boys and girls have played with great skill in this year’s games.

The players and coaches have not gone unnoticed by BHS, the Bainbridge community, and even universities. This week brings the winning season to an end.

The girls’ basketball team is coached by Kevin Cochran, a physical education teacher at BHS. Cochran has guided the team in practices and games to prepare the girls for the season. The 12 players on the girls’ team have won a total of 20 games out of the 24 played this season. Way to go, ladies!

The boys have also had an impressive season. With 17 victories, the boys on the basketball team have shown their skills and brought pride to BHS. The leadership of Coach Rickey McCullough has led the boys through their successful season. The 13 players have worked hard to achieve these victories. Coach McCullough said, “The team is a group of extremely successful kids. I enjoy coaching them and think this team has the chance to go a long way this year.”

Practices for the basketball teams take place every weekday after school. The teams alternate times of 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Friday night, Senior Night, was the final game of the regular season for our Bearcat Basketball. The game highlighted the BHS senior basketball players and their dedication to the team. The four senior girls and three senior boys have shown exceptional leadership throughout the season. BHS will be sad to lose these players but is excited to see them pursue basketball further after graduation.

One of the basketball players has already begun to make plans for his future in basketball. Tyree Crump, a junior at BHS, has committed to play with the University of Georgia after high school. BHS is extremely proud of Tyree! This achievement as a player is one to be praised.

Monday, Feb. 9 marked the beginning of the basketball playoffs, which both teams competed in. The teams have received much enthusiasm by the BHS community. The basketball cheerleaders, sponsored by Darlene Milton, have done an awesome job cheering on the players throughout the entire season. Also, BHS students have been highly supportive of the basketball team this year by attending the games. Thank you BHS students for showing your pride for Bearcat Basketball.

Good luck Bearcats in the future, and thank you for your hard work this year.
