I have known for some time the editorial bend of The Post-Searchlight was conservative, but I did not realize just how right wing it had become until the political cartoon of { Aug. 19} was published on the opinion page. I have held my opinion of your editorial page content until today.

The political cartoon in Wednesday, Aug. 19 opinion page is reprehensible as well as irresponsible. It fans the flames of right-wing extremism in the manner of Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck! To picture any national leader as a Nazi to stoke the flames of fanaticism is unacceptable, and whoever is responsible for the publication of the cartoon should be fired.

The Nazi party was the (National Socialist German Workers Party). It was not a socialist party but was in fact a fascist party. It was a right-wing system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, suppression of opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

Sort of sounds like the last administration doesn’t it?

The tactics of the right-wing extremists during the health care debates have an uncanny resemblance to the ethics of the Nazi Party Brown Shirts.

And then the next editorial below the cartoon says, “Don’t trust rumors.” It speaks about the need to fact-check rumors before taking a rumor as truth, especially when it counts with the flu rumors in Decatur County.

I would hope you would counsel your readers to apply those suggestions when dealing with the distortion of facts and outright lies being spread by the insurance and drug company fueled organizations and Republican leaders.
