As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, eight people have qualified to be on the ballot for the May 2014 Primaries and the deadline to qualify will be Friday, March 7.
The primaries, while normally in the mid-summer, have moved to May this year, moving qualifying up to an earlier time table as well.
Registered to run for the three available seats on the Decatur County Board of Education are Keith Lyle of District 1, Dr. Sydney Cochran of District 4, Jon McRae of District 4 and Marvin Thomas of District 6.
Running for the three available seats on the Decatur County Board of Commissioners are Jan Godwin of District 1, Charles Fitzgerald of District 1 and Oliver Sellers of District 6.
Originally intending to qualify for the Board of Commissioners, Frank Loeffler of District 4 said he has decided not to run. Loeffler is the current commissioner in that district and he currently serves as chairman for the county commission.
The three school board seats and solicitor general qualifying forms can be found at the Decatur County Board of Elections and Registration office, located at the Decatur County Courthouse.
Those seeking a position on the commission must do so with their party; republicans can qualify at the Cleveland Law Firm, 113 West Water Street, Bainbridge, and Democrats can qualify at the Decatur County Administration building.
These offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and open from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
