4-H and FFA members exhibit livestock at Georgia National Fair

Decatur County 4-H and FFA show team members competed at the Georgia National Fair, in Perry, Ga., held Oct. 4-14. All exhibitors represented Decatur County well as they competed in their respective showmanship and classes for cattle and swine.
Cattle exhibitors competed in showmanship and the steer and/or heifer shows at the Georgia National Fair. Hannah Bius placed second and fourth in class with her two Commercial Heifers, and also placed fourth in 11th grade showmanship. Chelsea Lynn placed fourth in 10th grade showmanship and second and fourth in Commercial Heifer class. Lexie Delbrey placed second in class with her Commercial Heifer. Taylor Strickland exhibited a steer, with which she placed eighth in class. Jacob Hall also exhibited a steer, placing second in class.
Swine exhibitors enjoyed a weekend in Perry as they competed respectfully in the Breeding Gilt, Commercial Gilt, and/or Market Hog Show, along with the showmanship competition. Decatur County exhibitors represented exceptionally with numerous top 10 class placings.
Taylor Barber won sixth grade showmanship, while also winning her class with a Market Barrow and taking home Reserve Champion in her division. Taylor placed third in class with her Market Gilt and fourth with her Purebred Yorshire Gilt, as well. Audrey Anderson placed fifth with her Purebred April Yorkshire, and eighth with her Purebred February Yorkshire. Rachel Hayes placed fifth with her April Duroc. Miller Hayes placed fifth with his March Hampshire and was sixth place in seventh-grade showmanship. Bringing home third-place showmanship honors was Heath Parker, in eighth-grade showmanship. Parker also placed third in class with his April Yorkshire and first with his Barrow. Bo Bailey and Lexie Delbrey were also among the swine exhibitors at the Georgia National Fair.
These 4-H and FFA livestock exhibitors represent Decatur County as part of the Bainbridge Show Team, as they take part in livestock shows over the South. As a result of their participation, these youth gain character traits including responsibility, caring and fairness among others, and certainly the reward of hard-work and dedication. In addition, they practice numerous life skills including teamwork, self motivation, self esteem, critical thinking, decision making, goal setting, cooperation, and communication.
