Lady Cats Thomas sets course record

April Thomas of the Bainbridge High School Lady Cats and Hunter Honeycutt of the Tift County High School Blue Devils set course records of 19 minutes, 30 seconds and 16:03 in winning the 10th annual Bearcat Invitational Cross Country Meet last Saturday on the new Bainbridge High School campus.

The top Bearcats finisher was Cody Heard, who was ninth in a time of 17:24.

During the first nine years of the event, it was held at Spring Hill Christmas Tree Farm, which was unavailable this year.

Valdosta High School Lady Wildcat teammates Chelsea Walker and Bailey Hurst were second and third in the girls division. Walker completed the 5,000-meter, 3.1-mile course in a time of 19:52 and Hurst completed it in a time of 20:53..

Rounding out the girls top five were Lane Ellington, of the Lee County Lady Trojans, who was fourth in a time of 21:27, and Kelly Murray of the Tift County Lady Blue Devils, who was fifth in a time of 21:28.

David Daniel of the Thomasville High School Bulldogs was second in the boys division in a time of 16:13. Third place in the boys division went to Jonathan Cauthen of the Colquitt County Packers in a time of 16:26.

Ryan Overstreet of the Northview High School Cougars from Dothan, Ala., sprinted home fourth in the boys division in a time of 16:31 while Bridger Ferrell of the Albany’s Westover High School Patriots sprinted home fifth in a time of 17:11.
