If the foundations be destroyed

Psalms 11:3: “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do.”

The Apostle Paul wrote in (Ephesians 2:20 -21), “And are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord.”

Jesus asked the question in St. Matthew 21:42-44, “Did ye never read in the scriptures, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner, this is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes. Therefore say I unto you the kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bring forth the fruits thereof. And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever it shall fall it will grind him to powder.”

Jesus said at the Sermon on the Mount (St. Matthew 5:17-18), “Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

We are told in Isaiah 28:16, “Therefore thus saith the Lord God. Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tied stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation, he that believeth shall no make haste.”

We know that Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone, and his Gospel is the foundation the Apostles preached and spread abroad.

Jesus tells us in St. Luke 6:47-49, “Whosoever cometh to me and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like. His is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock, and when the flood arose the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”

The foundations that many are built upon today are not sure or solid as the preaching of the word has been compromised so much that the Gospel has been beaten and worn down through the years because of man’s will and not God’s will being done. It’s the devils design to undermine, to destroy the very foundations we are built upon.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:20-22, “And are built upon the foundation the apostle and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. In whom all the building fitly formed together growth unto an holy temple in the Lord. In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the spirit.”

We must be completely sure of our foundation that we are built upon that responsibility lies upon each and every one of us. We see man is forever trying to change God’s word and doctrine this is why we have so many different beliefs.

Paul said again in 2nd Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth.”

We as Christians must not leave the principles of the doctrine of Christ. We must not ever lose them, we must never forget them. The doctrine must live up in our hearts. Being a Christian is our profession we must always be laying the foundation, building upon it. We are to grow in spiritual strength and stature. Not being tossed to and fro as Paul said in Ephesians 4:14, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”

David in the Old Testament said it well (Psalms 82:5), “They know not, neither will they understand, they walk on in darkness, all the foundation of the earth are out of course.”

Remember Jesus asked the question in St. Matthew 21: 42, “Did ye never read in the scriptures, the stone which the builder rejected, the same is become the head of the corner, this is the Lords doing and it is marvelous in our eyes?”
