A Web site for Georgia teens the Georgia Department of Transportation has launched is a new resource for teen drivers and their parents.

The Web site, “Teen Driving Safety 101,” www.dot.ga.gov/teendriving, is a “one-stop” information portal providing information on driving laws, safety tips and travel information to help teens stay safe behind the wheel.

“Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among American teens,” said Georgia DOT Commissioner Vance C. Smith Jr.

“The Department is dedicated to reducing teen crashes in Georgia, and part of that mission involves ensuring that Georgia teens have the information they need to become safe, responsible drivers.

“With school activities, Homecoming dances and football games all on their schedules, it is important that teens and their families be able to get the information they need quickly and easily. This Web site, ‘Teen Driving Safety 101’ is designed to provide teens and their parents a one-stop site that they can access with just one click,” Smith added.

The Web site was developed in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Department of Driver Services and Riverdale High School’s Technology Team. In addition to these partners, the site includes links to other government agencies and sites with information about teen driving laws and general travel information.

The Web site officially launched on Tuesday, Oct. 20, as part of National Teen Driver Safety Week, designated by Congress in 2007 as the third week in October.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for young drivers (ages 15-20) in America. Teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers.
