Decatur County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an Attapulgus man Tuesday, after they found marijuana and property that had been reported stolen, while executing a search warrant at his home.

Sheriff’s deputies obtained a search warrant for the home of Michael Edwin Bruneau, 51, 303 Strickland Lane, Attapulgus, after learning that he was wanted for questioning by law enforcement in Warner Robins, Ga., said Capt. Chip Nix, the chief investigator at the Sheriff’s Office. In addition, deputies had received information that Bruneau was possibly involved in criminal activity, Nix said.

Deputies went to Bruneau’s residence around midday Tuesday. Inside the home, they observed marijuana plants being grown. The deputies also recovered property investigators believe to be stolen, because the identifying marks had been removed.

“At this time, the only thing we are certain was stolen is a trailer which was used by an electrical company to haul hydraulic coils of copper,” Nix said.

According to Nix, Bruneau was being sought by law enforcement in Warner Robins, who suspected he and another man — who remains at large — had stolen an automated teller machine (ATM) from a bank in that city.

“We’ve been working with the FBI and Warner Robins police on this case, which is still under investigation,” Nix said. “We believe Bruneau may be connected to other ATM thefts all over the southeast United States.”

Bruneau was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and altering serial numbers.

Nix said Sheriff’s Investigator Cheryl Roberts is in charge of the investigation.

 

Robbery reported

A 41-year-old man reported being mugged last Friday night as he walked home from a party.

The man said he was walking on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at around 11:30 p.m. last Friday when three black males, all wearing ski masks and white T-shirts, accosted him.

The victim, whom Bainbridge Public Safety Officer Ken Williams noted had bruises on his face and head, stated that he had fought off his attackers but not before they took his money and struck him.
