Jane Molder was born January 22, 1933, in Griffin, GA, the daughter of Josh & Elizabeth Dexter Molder. She was a graduate of Athens High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Georgia in 1954. (No doubt she was a Bulldog football fan.) Though they were natives of North Georgia, Jane and her husband, Ralph, lived for a few years in Eufaula, AL until 1975 when Bainbridge became their home. She taught in Decatur County Schools having imparted life lessons with her students, many of whom she kept in contact with over the years. Jane was a member of First United Methodist Church where she actively served in many capacities: Sunday School teacher, member of Mary O’Quinn Sunday School Class & Dewberry-Forrester Sunday School Class, member of United Methodist Women, member of Clark-Morris UMW Circle, and countless other projects as a quiet disciple.
Jane understood the importance of education and maintained her student status. She was an avid reader visiting the local library just a month ago to choose books that would take her on the next adventure. She was handy with a needle and thread, sewing clothes for the children over the years and crocheting blankets and various what-nots as reminders of her love.
Cards (Bridge and Solitaire) kept her mind sharp and gave her plenty of opportunities to enjoy the company of friends while keeping up with the goings on around town. Family was always a priority for Jane. She didn’t mind sharing her thoughts while allowing space for you to experience things for yourself. Jane never tired of reminiscing; she watched her digital photo frame soaking in the children, grandchildren, and great-grands every evening declaring “time for bed” when the reel timed out.
Survivors include her children, Mike Powell of Dahlonega, Bill & Carol Powell and David & Diane Powell all of Bainbridge; her grandchildren, Bill Jr. & Christina, Clayton & Erica, Jenna & Jeremy, Christopher, John & Allie, and Sarah & Chad; her nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ralph E. Powell; her daughter, Pam Powell Burch; and her sisters, Frances Elizabeth Molder, Eloise M. Smith, and Edith Lummus.
The Powell Family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Sydney Cochran, Natalie Alday of Georgia Hospice, and Kay’s Healing Hands Staff for their kindness and compassion.
