Funeral services for Walter Cecil Gibbs, Jr., 68, of Whigham, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Whigham Baptist Church, Whigham, GA.  Rev. Johnny Burdick will officiate.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whigham, GA.  Mr. Gibbs passed away at his residence, Whigham, GA, on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

Active pallbearers will be Terry Parker, Randy Fowler, Tony Black, Travis McLendon, Mark Baggett, Chris Gardner, Jeff Tavener and Dixon Harrison.  Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Parker, Emmett Brock, Tracy Brock, Pat McNeill and members of the Whigham Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Gibbs was born on May 2, 1956, in Bainbridge, GA, to the late Walter Cecil Gibbs, Sr. and the late Virginia Harrison Gibbs.  On February 1, 1975, he married Carolyn Ulmer Gibbs, who survives, and they were married for over 49 years.

Survivors include:  his wife, Carolyn Ulmer Gibbs of Whigham, GA; son, Trey Gibbs (Lauren) of Cairo, GA; grandson, Walt Gibbs of Cairo, GA; nieces and nephews, Marty Morris Knight (Robby) of Cairo, GA, Amy Morris Jarrett (Chris) of Thomasville, GA, Jill Mahan (Ryan) of Glen Rose, TX, Jeffery Tavener (Audrey) of Commerce, TX, Cassie Latmore (Grant) of Thomasville, GA and Katie Ulmer of Whigham, GA; great-nieces and nephews, Sailor Grey Gintz of Thomasville, GA, Aberum Lane Knight of Whigham, GA, Raney Tavener of Commerce, TX, Rhett Mahan and Rylan Mahan, both of Glen Rose, TX, Elizabeth Tavener of Commerce, TX and Greyson Latmore of Thomasville, GA; brothers-in-law, Jim Tavener of Campbell, TX and Terry Ulmer (Sissy) of Whigham, GA; sister-in-law, Susan Fowler of Brevard, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Patsy Gibbs Morris (Tony) and Donna Gibbs Tavener.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Gibbs’ memory to Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center, 919 S. Broad Street, Thomasville, GA 31792.

The family will receive friends at Whigham Baptist Church on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 2:00 until 3:00 PM.
