Junior Ladycat forward Addison Hill has been crowned the 2023-2024 Region 1-4A Player of the Year.

Hill wins the award after a career year, a year that can be explained in a multitude of ways.

Maybe you care about season stats.  Hill led the Ladycats in goals (44) and goals per game (2.8) and finished third in assists (10) in the 2023-2024 season.

Or maybe, it’s bigger than just one season; how about a career? Hill became the program’s all-time career scorer this season, setting a new record of 96 goals and counting.

OR, just maybe, it means more than one player’s career. Hill led the Ladycats to their first undefeated regular season in program history.

Any way you slice it, Hill was a star this season.

“I’m proud of her,” said Ladycats head coach, and Hill’s father, Brian Hill. “I’m proud of the way she plays the game. She hustles and competes… I like her overall game and being a leader.”

Scoring Weapon

Along with leading the team in goals, Hill recorded a hat trick in 10 games— more than 50% of contests. Her offensive efforts set a new single-season scoring record of 44 goals, breaking the previous record of 42 goals set by Addison Hill in the 2022-2023 season.

Hill scored a handful of impressive-looking goals this season, but her best is arguably a goal scored directly from a corner kick in the Ladycats’ first-round playoff matchup against LaGrange.

Hill placed the ball on the left side of the corner flag and hit a curling strike with her right foot that snuck by the near post for the team’s first goal of the game.

Record Breaker

Hill etched her name into the record books this season. She surpassed the program’s career scoring record of 61 goals, accruing 96 by the end of this season with another year to add to the total. She broke the record in a hat-trick performance against Brookwood on February 15.

“It feels really good,” Hill said. “That’s a really exciting thing, especially because I know how hard it is, breaking that record.”

Hill came into the 2024 season with 52 career goals, scoring 42 in 2023. She said she knew she was in striking distance of the record at the start of the season and that breaking it came sooner than expected.

“I knew last year after I had a really good season I had like 20 goals left, maybe 15 left to go before I would break the scoring record,” Hill said. “But I never knew when that would be, and the first few goals at Brookwood were really quick.”

Hill said she’s proud of her accomplishment and that she wouldn’t have been able to make history without the help from her father and her team.

“Especially with [Coach Hill] being my coach,” Hill said. “It makes it like a family thing. Also how close we are as a team is really good. Even though it’s me breaking the record, I couldn’t do it without my team or without my dad. My dad’s always pushing me to be the best soccer player I can be, so I definitely would not have done this without him.”

Regular Season History

The Ladycats earned an undefeated, 14-1-0 regular season record this year. The perfect mark is the first in program history.

They beat regular season opponents by an average of 4.5 goals and finished the season with a 90-21 scoring differential. They recorded six shutouts and won 60% of games by five or more goals.
