Seven Bearcat, Ladycat soccer players named to TASA ‘229 All Star’ team

Seven Bearcat and Ladycat soccer players have been selected to the Thomasville Area Soccer Association (TASA) “229 All Star” team. 

Junior forward Addison Hill, junior midfielder Emma Ryan Shirley and senior midfielder Nicole Tyre will represent the Ladycats, and senior defender Tomas Gallo, senior goalkeeper Lathan Holt, sophomore midfielder Henry Vanstone and senior midfielder Brock Williams will represent the Bearcats. 

They will play in their respective all-star games on May 15 at Cairo High School. The Girls play at 6 p.m., with the boys following at 7:30 p.m.

“This game is put together to showcase the regional talent that our 229 area has and provides players the opportunity to play in front of college coaches that attend,” wrote @TASA_FC on Instagram. “The 229 High School All Star Game is a very special game to us and the future soccer generation as it inspires younger kids to someday participate in it and also provides the opportunity for some to play one last high school game.”

Hill had a career year for the Ladycats. She led the team in goals (44) and goals per game (2.8) and broke Bainbridge’s career scoring record of 61 goals. She ended the 2023-2024 season at 96 total goals.

Tyre led the team in assists (18) and assists per game (1.1) and finished the season second in goals (29).

Shirley ended the year with three goals and three assists, fourth on the team in both categories. 

Gallo was a cornerstone of the Bearcats’ defense this season. Along with fellow All Star, Holt, the Bearcats allowed just 14 goals against this season (.78 per game), compared to 87 goals scored. 

Holt was a game-changer for the Bearcats. The senior goalkeeper recorded eight shutouts and led the team to a first-round playoff victory over Troup County with the game-saving stops in a penalty shootout. 

Williams had his best year in the 2023-2024 season. He led the Bearcats in goals (25) and goals per game (1.5) and finished second in assists (10). During the season, Williams broke Bainbridge’s career scoring record of 62 goals and closed his career with 75 goals.

Vanstone finished the season tied fourth on the team in assists (4) and scored one goal. He also scored a penalty shootout goal to help the Bearcats win their round-one playoff game against Troup County.
