Owen Earnest wins region 3-2A Singles Championship, all cougars qualify for states

Junior Cougar Owen Earnest has been crowned Region 3-2A singles Champion and enters the playoffs as a No. 1 seed.

Earnest earned the region title at the region tournament Tuesday, April 8. He beat a Crisp Academy player 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 for the crown. Cougars’ head coach, Jeremy Ryan, said the win gives Earnest important momentum into the state playoffs.

“For him to win region is a big deal,” Ryan said. “We’re real proud of him, I think he’s going to do real well at state.”

Earnest’s win capped off a successful day for the Cougars team. The squad had multiple singles and doubles teams competing for a chance at state championship qualification— Every team qualified.

“The whole team today did well,” Ryan said. “Three of them are freshmen that qualified.”

The Cougars get their shots at state championship titles next week at the state tournament. The two-day event will run from Monday, April 15, to Tuesday, April 16, with the championship match played on Tuesday.
