With the winter weather still keeping things chilly, crowds gathered at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum last week for an equally chilly play: the BHS Drama team’s production of “Frozen, Jr.”

The musical adaptation of Disney’s film was actually a collaboration between the BHS and BMS drama teams, as well as both chorus programs. The production utilized a variety of special effects, including a fog machine, tiered staging, as well as a variety of lighting effects, courtesy of lighting technician Vince Edenfield. BHS Choral Director and Theatre Teacher Leigh Powell described it as “the largest, most lavish production we’ve ever performed.”

Having this many students involved has presented its own challenges but I think the students all learn to work well with each other and depend on each other to make the best production possible,” she added.

Powell stated that overall reception to the show has been very positive, with over 500 attendees over the weekend; additionally, during the play’s performances at each school on Friday, each had over 700 in student turnout.

“It’s been amazing to see audience members come back for multiple shows to see both casts and because they love the show so much,” Powell stated.

This performance may also mark the Drama club’s last performance at the Coliseum, with the new Performing Arts Center under construction at the high school. “We would like to thank the administrators and staff at BMS, as well as at BHS for working with us for this production and all productions at the coliseum since BHS Drama’s establishment,” Powell concluded.
