Janet Hazel Butler was born October 5, 1933, in Dublin, IN, the daughter of Carl Sr. and Hazel Clifton Butler. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Cambridge City, IN. Janet married Paul E. Monger in 1951. Though Janet worked at Henry County Hospital, managed the Tri High School lunchroom, and helped out at her husband’s gas station, she considered her “full time job” caring for their five children. She was a member of Lewisville Order of the Easter Star for over fifty years. Paul & Janet moved south to Decatur County in 1992 where they were members of Recovery Methodist Church.

“Miss” Janet had a servant’s heart and a broad sense of humor. Her repertoire ranged from the neighborhood children she considered like her own to the elderly homebound folks she enjoyed sitting with. Janet was affectionately described as “everyone’s grandma”. She enjoyed fishing…for fish and for information; “Miss” Janet had a curious nature and would ask questions about most anything. Her quick wit resulted in comebacks that left her audience in stitches. She faced obstacles with a positive attitude and motivated others to do the same.

Survivors include her children, Bob Monger (Debby) of Knightstown, IN, Paula Clements of Faceville, and Brenda Irvin (Kevin) of Columbus, IN; her five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and extended family including many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Paul E. Monger; her children, Jama Brown and Ted Monger; her grandson, Kelly Brown; and her siblings, Donald Butler, Margarette Henry, Horace Butler, Claude Butler, Doris Loomis, Jack Butler, Carl Butler, Jr., Donna Jean Rihm, and Barbara Huddleston.
