There have been some changes at the Firehouse Art Center recently, the most notable being the hiring of Chelsea Kornse as the new Administrative Director. While Jessica Polsky will still be involved with the Firehouse’s marketing activities, Kornse will now oversee the center’s operations.

A Bainbridge native, Kornse previously worked for years in the country music industry in Nashville. However, after several years working in the industry, Kornse states sh felt a desire to come back home. “I was tired of being on the road all the time touring, and so I really missed the small-town life, and I missed home,” she said, “because I haven’t been here for a long period of time, for years.”

Kornse hopes the Firehouse will be able to provide more for the community under her leadership, with “more events, more classes, more workshops.”

“I’m just really happy to be here,” Kornse said. “I found my love of the arts and realized I wanted to pursue a creative life when I was younger here in Bainbridge,” she continued, “and to be able to hopefully help influence the younger generation into a creative world, whether it’s for a career, or something they do to keep going through this crazy life, I would love to help be a part of the Firehouse’s mission to spread that.”

Upcoming events on the Firehouse’s schedule include the annual Sketchbook Pin-up, scheduled for February 3, and the annual Father-Daughter Dance, scheduled for February 9-11.
