Mildred Montine Angelia Salter was born January 17, 1928, in Climax, GA, the daughter of Paul & Temptie Thompson Salter. She was a graduate of Climax High School, Class of 1946. Mildred married John E. “Buck” McNair in 1951, and they made their home in Decatur County. Mildred retired from Bainbridge State Hospital but made many friends over the years working as a cashier at A&P, a paraprofessional at Elcan King Elementary School, and her most favorite job as a switchboard operator with Southern Bell. She was a member of Black Jack Baptist Church.

Family was most important to Mildred. She was the “mama” to all her siblings preparing her to be the best “MeeMaw” to the grands. She was generous with her time and talents, sewing clothes, preparing meals, and selflessly giving to others. Mildred’s life was all about Jesus. She studied the Bible without fail every single day. As a prayer warrior, she stood in the gap for family and friends sometimes when they were unaware. Mildred had the heart of a servant and lived out the call to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Survivors include her children, Russell & Laura McNair of Duluth, Randall & Barbara McNair of Raphine, VA, Tim & Tawnya McNair of Green Cove Springs, FL, and Tommy & April McNair of Climax; her grandchildren, John & Candace, Daniel & Jenny, Emily & Lee, Matthew & Janie, Kelly & Nathan, George & Taylor, Luke & Brooke, Adam, Ashley & Ryan, and Rebecca & Austin; her great-grandchildren, Gillian, Jackie, Mack, Katie, Lindsay, Hannah, William, Caleb, Gilbert, Walker, Delaney, Bowen, Cosette, Hayden, Jake, Maddy, and Raegan; and her siblings, Edna Brock, J.D. Salter, and Joe Salter. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John E. “Buck” McNair, and her brothers, Spencer Salter, William Salter, and Nathan Salter.

The McNair Family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Willow Ridge for their kindness and exceptional care.
