The Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars (0-5) fell to the Sherwood Christian Academy Lady Eagles (5-1) 28-41. The game started back and forth, but the Lady Eagles pulled away in the third quarter. Lady Cougars’ head coach Kelsey Herrell said she was pleased with freshman guard Ava Martin’s performance.
“The things that [Martin] is doing has far exceeded any expectations,” Harrell said. “It’s very encouraging.
Martin finished the night second in scoring with eight points. She was 3-4 from the field and shot 100% from the free-throw line. Junior guard Chloe Brogdan led the team in scoring with 13 points.
Defensively, the Lady Cougars were consistent, and that consistency is a positive that Harrell took from the loss. They held Sherwood to between nine and 11 points per quarter and let up only one scoring run to the Eagles.
“I really couldn’t have asked for more,” Harrell said.
The Lady Cougars travel to Brookwood High School next. The away matchup tips off at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
