The Bearcat football team “dominated” their region this season, according to Bearcats Head Coach Jeff Littleton. They finished with a 4-0 record and won each game by an average of 42 points. 

The team’s performance in Region 1-4A landed seven players on the All-Region team, 12 players on the honorable mention list, and one freshman on the “Fantastic Freshman” team.

Five of the seven All-Region picks played on the defensive side of the ball. Senior defensive lineman Don’Terrius Williams, junior linebacker Braylon Phillips, senior linebacker AJ McKay, junior defensive back TaShun Carter and senior defensive back Javon Cox were selected for the All-Region defense— making up more than a third of the squad.

The Bearcat defense held region opponents to a combined 27 points, giving up just four touchdowns. They recorded five fumble recoveries — one for a touchdown — and forced a punt or turnover on downs on over half of opposing offensive drives. 

The All-Region offense saw just one Bearcat: senior offensive lineman Kahleem Murphy. Murphy held the line for the Bearcats in the region, allowing them to accrue more than 1800 yards of offensive. 

The Bearcats’ three best-performing offensive players, senior quarterback Cam Sanders, senior wide receiver Antavious Murphy and senior running back Keenan Phillips, were omitted from the All-Region team due to being named Region 1-4A Player of the Year (Sanders) and Co-Offensive Players of the Year (Murphy and Phillips) 

Senior kicker Nicholas Tyre was chosen as the Region 1-4A first-team kicker. Tyre was perfect on 20 extra point attempts against region opponents.

Freshman defensive back Noah Stutler was named to the “Fantastic Freshman” team. Stutler had a more prominent role and saw significant playing time in the 2023 season compared to his freshman counterparts on the team.

12 Bearcats earned a spot on the All-Region honorable mentions list.
